Cross Training
Martial arts mechanics, delivered to your squad as a short off season or in season block. Not a taster session — targeted work on rotation, takeoff and single leg control.
Connaught Skating Club
A three session taekwondo and kickboxing cross training programme for roughly sixteen elite competitive figure skaters. The brief was not to teach them martial arts — it was to use martial arts mechanics to sharpen movement they already perform on ice.
We mapped kicking mechanics directly onto skating movement: ap chagi and dollyo chagi against jump takeoff and spin rotation. Skaters got to feel rotation initiated from the hip and standing leg, off ice, at a speed where they could actually correct it.
Ap chagi
The drive through the hip and the timing of the knee snap are the same mechanics a skater uses to load and release a takeoff edge. Drilling it off ice makes the pattern conscious.
Dollyo chagi
Rotation initiated from the standing leg and hip rather than thrown from the shoulders — the same correction coaches make when a skater opens up early in a spin.
Stance work
Static and transitional stance drilling builds the single leg control that shows up in a clean landing rather than a stepped out one.
BUILT AROUND YOUR SEASON
Every block is written for the sport in front of us. Figure skating got rotation and landing work — a different sport gets whatever its own movement demands.
Short blocks
The Connaught programme ran as three sessions. Length is set with you, around your competition calendar rather than ours.
Whole squad at once
Built for full training groups — the Connaught block ran with roughly sixteen skaters together.
